About The Seabee Ball Committee
In December 1941, with U.S. involvement in the war soon expected on both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, Rear Admiral Ben Moreell, Chief of the Navy’s Bureau of Yards and Docks, recommended establishing Naval Construction Battalions at a newly constructed base at Davisville, Rhode Island (part of North Kingstown). With the attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States’ entry into the war, he was given the go-ahead. The Davisville Advanced Base Depot became operational in June 1942. Camp Thomas, a personnel-receiving station on the base, was established in October of that year. On August 11, 1942, the Naval Construction Training Center, known as Camp Endicott, was commissioned at Davisville. The Camp trained over 100,000 Seabees during the Second World War.
In May 1942, a Naval Construction Force base was established at Port Hueneme, CA in Ventura County. This base has been responsible for shipping massive amounts of equipment and material in support of World War II, Korean War, Antarctica, Vietnam War, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Disaster Relief and Humanitarian missions.
The NBVC Seabee Ball Committee is an all-volunteer non-profit 501(c3) organization that was established to coordinate the annual Seabee Ball and raise money to help reduce entry cost to junior personnel and their spouses/significant others. As is the case with other military balls, the Seabee Ball is not a Navy sponsored event – it is funded through private contributions and donations.
Over 3,000 active duty Seabees live in Ventura County with their spouses, children, and loved ones. Their recent deployments include Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Humanitarian Assistance missions in Africa, Asia, and elsewhere. The 2015 Seabee Ball will celebrate their successes and the sacrifices the Seabees and their families make on a daily basis.
We would like to give you the opportunity to thank the Port Hueneme Seabees by supporting this worthwhile event. Your contribution will be used to cover expenses such as catering, transportation, and decorations, thus reducing the ticket prices for the junior enlisted troops who make up the majority of the units. As a token of our appreciation for your donation, we will acknowledge your contribution in the event program.
